Kurt Herman was born in October 1929 in Vienna, Austria. In 1938 the Nazis annexed Austria. When he was 10 years old, his mother answered a newspaper ad looking for children to immigrate to America. He was among 50 Jewish children from Vienna, out of more than 600, to be chosen to be rescued to Philadelphia in May 1939. Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus saved lives and ended up saving worlds.
